Guiding principle (vision)
Our guiding principle is based on the conviction that all peoples of the world should have the right to knowledge, technological and medical progress, and access to healthcare appropriate to their circumstances. In this way, the dignity and rights of every individual can be respected. Our measures are designed to improve healthcare provision for people in developing countries. Know how transfer, training and long-term support for these processes are intended to ensure sustainability.
Our mission
We aim to support hospitals and outpatient clinics in developing countries in fulfilling their mandate through training and the provision of medical equipment. The foundation is a non-profit organisation; it is politically and religiously neutral and is funded by donations, grants and sponsorships from private individuals, companies and institutions. It seeks to secure equipment sponsorship and, where necessary, to purchase and install medical apparatus, and provides funding for training delivered by external consultants, such as doctors. All measures are implemented following a thorough needs assessment and agreement on rights and obligations between the Foundation SmW and the beneficiary institution. The utmost importance is attached to quality and sustainability.
Organisation
The Foundation SmW was established by Walter Gysel and Karin Villabruna in 2010 and successfully led by them for 15 years. Beatrice Mosimann and Esther Trummer took over the management at the start of 2026.
Support
The funds donated to the FoundationSmW are used with the utmost care and exclusively for the purpose of imparting knowledge and, where appropriate, providing equipment.
